Quality Parenting Pre-Service Training:
A Journey Home
This memorandum is to advise all Child Welfare staff of the upcoming quality parenting pre-service training, A Journey Home. The new foster parent curriculum includes seven (7) sessions and an additional session for those applicants who are interested in adoption.
Purpose of Training: 1) Give overview of new foster/adoptive parent curriculum; 2) Discuss fostering, how children enter foster care, and helping children with grief, attachment, birth family and separation issues; 3) Discuss issues of discipline and assessing impact of fostering in families; 4) Define trauma experienced by children and give overview of TBRI; 5) Discuss normalcy and agency policy.
All Child Welfare employees are required to participate in one of these sessions by July 1, 2017.

Targeted Recipients: All DCFS Child Welfare staff and certified foster/adoptive parents are expected to attend this training.
