About the Course
F.O.R.E.C.A.S.T. is a trauma-informed intensive simulation. This training session introduces and builds important
concepts and skills for helping children impacted by trauma, abuse, neglect and loss.
F.O.R.E.C.A.S.T. is a unique educational experience designed to:
? Help child-serving professionals make better decisions in situations involving childhood trauma.
? Simulate a real-world scenario and can better prepare participants for the complex challenges of
trauma-informed care.
? Include a strong emphasis in providing personal and professional self-care for workers
? Provide the knowledge, skills and behaviors associated with secondary trauma
? Help child-serving professionals identify, understand and prepare for the potential impact of secondary
traumatic stress
? Integrate diversity, belonging and employee engagement throughout the simulation process.
By participating in the Simulation process participants will:
? Discuss the basics of trauma-informed care
? Identify and apply the 12 Core Concepts for Understanding Traumatic Stress Responses in Children and
Families
? Discover and apply T.I.E.R.S. (Trauma-Informed Experiential Reasoning Skills) in the context of child
abuse and neglect scenarios
? Understand and apply the National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services
(CLAS)
? Demonstrate knowledge and application of problem-based learning (PBL) model to simulation.
? Learn to review professional documentation and extract information that would contribute to
investigation planning.
? Practice critical thinking skills to generate hypotheses pertaining to available case information.
? Demonstrate the ability to interview family members, caregivers and others involved in child abuse and
neglect in a role-play-based simulation.
? Identify anticipated child protection processes relevant to the case.
