About the Course
This three and half day curriculum was developed as part of the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services, New Worker Competency-Based Training Model. This curriculum provides Child Protective Services (CPS) workers with the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to return to the workplace with strategies to assess safety, risk and family functioning and to intervene on the behalf of children. The curriculum content was developed from resources including DCFS Policy and the Child Welfare Assessment and Decision Making model. The focus of this training is to understand and apply the concepts and principles of the Child Protective Services program combined with the principals of the Child Welfare Assessment and Decision Making model, risk assessment and safety planning. The ultimate goal is working with families to ensure the safety of their children while utilizing DCFS policy and best practice efforts that encompass an approach of child-centered family focused practice.
