About the Course

The UP Institute presents an interactive Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) training for DCFS Child Welfare staff across Louisiana . Built in collaboration with the 2025 CSA training provider, this program equips staff with updated, evidence-based practices for identifying, assessing, and responding to child sexual abuse. The curriculum emphasizes trauma-informed communication, CSA investigative procedures, collaboration with Child Advocacy Centers and law enforcement, and awareness of legislative requirements, including Charlie's Law (Act 409). Training requires one day of in-person instruction and one day of virtual learning.

The curriculum emphasizes trauma-informed approaches to concerning sexual behaviors in children that reflect the unique needs of each service delivery region. The training also includes an expanded, individualized workbook to provide updated guidance. Through case-based learning and focused skill building, the training aims to strengthen staff confidence, resiliency, and effectiveness when working with children and families affected by sexual abuse.

By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and assess indicators of child sexual abuse using evidence-based strategies.

  • Apply trauma-informed communication techniques when engaging children, caregivers, and families during CSA investigations.

  • Use case-based learning and problem-solving methods to analyze complex CSA scenarios and make informed decisions.

  • Recognize and respond appropriately to concerning sexual behaviors in children.

  • Utilize a newly developed, family-friendly CSA workbook to guide conversations with children and caregivers about the investigation process.

  • Promote personal resiliency and sustainable practice skills to support long-term effectiveness and well-being in CSA-related work.
