OUR STORY

Empowering Child Welfare

The Louisiana Child Welfare Training Academy (LCWTA), founded in partnership with DCFS and eight public universities, recruits and trains social work students for child protective services.

Inspired by Kentucky’s model, LCWTA expanded its vision, and in 2015, with Southeastern Louisiana University’s leadership, officially became Louisiana’s statewide child welfare training academy.

Engaging Child Welfare Partners

LCWTA’s unique approach includes training with legal stakeholders, such as judges and CASA volunteers, to enhance collaboration.

Partnerships with the Pelican Center and the Professional Consulting Group formed the Louisiana Title IV-E Child Welfare Workforce Alliance, led by Northwestern State University, uniting eight universities with DCFS for workforce development.

Expanding Community Support

Alongside our role as a key resource for child welfare workers' professional development, we’ve broadened our impact to support foster caregivers and community partners like teachers, law enforcement, CASA, and more.
