About the Course

Training Description: This one hour course will provide the participants with the basic knowledge of child passenger safety. This includes the proper selection of the child safety seat according to the child's age, weight, and height; the proper harnessing of the child into the proper child safety seat, using all parts of the child safety seat correctly; proper selection of the location in the vehicle, according the child safety seat specifics and vehicle installation availability; proper use of the seat in the correct direction for the child's age, weight, height and development; a basic understanding of child safety seat installation instruction.


Objectives: The participant will be able to identify the proper child safety seat for the child's age, weight and height.
The participant will be able to describe the proper use of the child safety seat harness, according to the child's age, weight, and height, in addition to the orientation of the child safety seat.
The participant will be able to describe the best location for installation in the vehicle.
The participant will be able to describe the basic installation of a child safety seat, using the available locking mechanisms.
The participant will be able to discuss the Louisiana child passenger safety law and its application to the specific child.
The participant will be familiar with the various pieces and parts to the child safety seat and how to use each part for the specific child.
The participant will be able to verbalize the categories of child safety seats in order to determine a proper selection.
The participants will be able to verbalize the necessity of facing the rear of the vehicle verses forward facing, while using best practice guidelines and the Louisiana child safety seat law.
